The weekend events

Sorry I was gone for the whole weekend. I just got caught up in all the weekend's excitement. Anywho here we go!!

In NBA action, a pair of game 7's and the start of the conference semifinals resulted in some excitement for me. The Celtics finally put the Bulls away on Saturday in their exciting series by winning 109-99 (this time in regulation for once, no OT) and taking the series (4-3). This series will be a classic for years to come. On Sunday, the Hawks took the Heat out of the playoffs by being victorious 91-78 to finally win their series (4-3). Also on Sunday, the Nuggets took Game 1 in the conference semifinals 109-95 and went up (1-0) in that series. Tonight's action include the 1st games between Magic/Celtics and the Rockets/Lakers.

While over in the NHL, Saturday's action included the 1st game between the Penguins and Capitals where the Capitals won 3-2 to go up (1-0) in their series. The Blackhawks outblasted the Canucks 6-3 to tie their series (1-1). That was one great game. On Sunday a 3 OT thriller gave the victory to the Ducks 4-3 over the Red Wings to tie their series up (1-1). Then the Hurricanes blanked the Bruins 3-0 to also tie up the series at 1 game a piece (1-1). Tonight, the Penguins and Capitals go at it in Game 2.

Finally in MLB action, the Yankees lost 8-4 to the Angels on Saturday and their game on Sunday was postponed due to inclement weather with no make-up date announced yet. The Yankees now play the Red Sox in the new Yankees stadium for the first time tonight.

Tonight is the night plus last night scores

In last night's action in the NBA, the Heat tied the series up (3-3) with a convincing 98-72 win over the Hawks. But tonight is the big night for Game 7 between the Bulls and Celtics. This historic series will come to an end and we will see who wants it more. It sure has been an entertaining series, to say the least, and I am looking forward to see who is coming out on top. I am playing no favorites to any one team, so I am going to enjoy this one.

In NHL action, the Red Wings took down the Ducks 3-2 in a last minute goal score to go up (1-0) in their series. Also, the Bruins blasted the Hurricanes 4-1 to take a (1-0) lead their. Tonight's game include the Penguins/Capitals first game while the Blackhawks/Canucks series is in Game 2.

The Yankees came from behind in the 9th to win against the Angels 10-9 which makes the Yankees record (13-10). They have another game going on today and I would not be surprised if that game was not exciting also.

Who will win?

Here are some tidbits about last night's games. The Celtics beat the Bulls 128-127 in 3 OT to tie their series (3-3) in another classic game in this incredible series. I have no idea who to pick for the 7th and final game of this series. There is rumor, very little of it to be exact, that Kevin Garnett might suit up and play for the Celtics tomorrow night. I doubt that will happen, but you never know. Also in NBA scores, the Magic won 114-89 without Dwight Howard to win their series (4-2). And the Rockets finished off the Trailblazers 92-76 to take their series (4-2). In tonight's action, the Hawks take on the Heat in Game six.

In NHL action, the only game of the night was the Blackhawks and Canucks with Vancouver winning 5-3 to take the (1-0) lead in the conference semifinals. There are two games tonight with the Ducks/RedWings and the Hurricanes/Bruins start their series.

Finally, the Yankees beat the Angels 7-4 last night with another game coming on tonight so watch.

A light schedule

Tonight's lineup is very light since there are no NHL games until tomorrow when the conference semifinals start up. The Heat and Hawks are playing right now in the NBA with the Hornets and Nuggets playing late. Also, the Yankees are playing the Tigers tonight.

There was something on the show PTI on ESPN today that kinda stuck to me. It seems that NASCAR will not do anything to fix the problems at the Talladega track after 2 big crashes and one crash that sent 10 fans to the hospital after a car flew up into the fence. What has to happen so no one, drivers or fans, gets killed at these races? These superspeedways and the restrictor plates make it where everyone is bunched together and one wrong move and there goes half the race cars in the race. But when cars goes flying up into the stands because of bumpdrafting, it is a whole new matter. Hopefully some sense will come into the heads of NASCAR officials and do something about it.

Monday sports night

There were many series both in the NHL and the NBA that were settled last night. Let's start with the NHL. The Blackhawks took it to the Flames 4-1  and took the series (4-2). It was a blowout all the way. Also the 8 seeded Ducks finally took out the 1 seeded Sharks 4-1 and embarrassed them in the first round (4-2). The Sharks were outplayed the whole series and being the 1 seed, they did not play up to expectations of all of their fans.

In the NBA, the Jazz finally bowed out to the Lakers 107-96. They were down by 22 at one point in the game and valiantly scratched back into it, but to no avail, could not come back the whole way. They lose the series (4-1) and now head to the off season to figure out how to win on the road. In other NBA games, the Nuggets took a commanding (3-1) lead by absolutely taking out the Hornets 121-63. And that is no misprint. The Hawks beat the Heat 81-71 to tie the series at 2 games a piece.

Finally in MLB news, the Yankees lose again for the fourth straight game 4-2 , but this time it was to the Detroit Tigers. They need help and they need it fast.

The weekend

Hi everyone,

I am back to catch you up on the news of the weekend. In MLB news, the Red Sox swept the Yankees with a couple of exciting games and one game included a home steal by Jacoby Ellsbury of the Red Sox. The Yankees were outscored 25-16 over the 3 games.

In NHL news, the Rangers/Capitals and the Devils/Canes series have been extended to 7 games on Sunday, while the Penguins finished off the Flyers in 6 games with a come from behind win of 5-3 on Saturday to win the series (4-2). Also on Saturday, the Flames/Blackhawks series is at (3-2) as is the Ducks/Sharks series.

As far as the NBA playoffs go, the Jazz got blown out 108-94 on Saturday by the Lakers and know the Lakers are up(3-1) in their series. The Cavaliers became the first team to eliminate the Pistons in a four straight sweep. Meanwhile, both the Magic/76ers series and the Celtics/Bulls series are nodded up 2 games a piece. And finally, the Rockets pulled ahead of the
of the Blazers(3-1) in a couple of close games decided by a total of 4 points in two games.

Now the NFL Draft is done for the year. Matthew Stafford did go #1 as they got a last minute deal done to draft him. Only 1 Florida State player went the entire draft and that was Everette Brown at the 43 position in the 2nd round. They were some BYU and UofU players that did go, so that was exciting to see some local talent go in the draft.

I will be back later to update you on today's games.

Be back Monday!

Hi everyone,

It's gonna be a busy weekend and I am not gonna be getting to everything, so I am going to take the weekend and soak it all in, then give you all the details for the NFL Draft to the playoffs.

Till Monday,

Rusty Butler

Late night scores

To update you for last night, the Jazz finally won one with 2.2 seconds left go to in the game and the final was Jazz-88 Lakers-86. The Jazz showed heart, determination, and the willing to do the dirty work to get the victory.

In NHL action, the Ducks took it to the #1 seed Sharks again 4-0, now leading the series (3-1). The Sharks showed all season that they were the team to beat, but are floundering in the first round of the playoffs again.

Oh, by the way, the Matthew Stafford sure pick at #1 is not looking so sure as negotiations are still going on with his staff and there is a backup plan in place if this deal does not pan out.

I will be back later to talk about tonight's games.

Once again the Jazz come up short in an important game that was needed to give them some much needed momentum coming home for Game 3. I sure hope that home court will give them the nasty boost they need to take it to the Lakers. Also, the Jazz need to play some defense so the game is not a shootout every time. When your opponent shoots 60% for the whole night, that is a sure sign that defense is nowhere to be seen. Maybe the next game will so the true Jazz colors and gives us a victory.

Meanwhile, tonight's full slate of games have me busy as usual. The Yankees and A's were tied 7-7 in the bottom of the 11th. More home runs are flying out of that park today, it is just getting silly how easy it is to hit a home run there. In NBA action, let's find out if the Heat and Dwayne Wade can step it up a notch and pull out a win. While in NHL action, the Bruins could wrap up the series tonight against the Canadiens.

I will be back later to keep you updated.

Flames-4 Blackhawks-2 (Blackhawks 2-1); this was one heck of a game at the end cause everyone got chippy with each other and made an otherwise boring game into a classic.

Rusty's day of fun

Yesterday was such a good day for me. There was plenty of basketball and hockey and baseball on that it made my head go wild. There were plenty of blowouts to go around and some of them were surprising to me. I expected the Jazz to make more of a game for the Lakers and Philly's hockey game with Pittsburgh caught me way off guard seeing  how the Penguins really took it to the Flyers in  Game 1&2. The real shocker was how the Magic lead the 76ers handily and then let come back and take one from them at home by 2 points. The rest of the games in the NBA were so far out of reach, it was just a joke. The NHL games were much closer and more exciting.

Now to talk a little about the NFL Draft. Will Matthew Stafford go number 1 to the Lions? They need just about everybody at every position, but I think it is a sure bet he will. I am hoping the Everette Brown of FSU will go in the first round. We need so me good news for the Seminoles.

Again I will be back later to catch you up on scores.

Follow up scores

Here are the scores form late last night:

NBA- Nuggets-113 Hornets-84 (Nuggets lead 1-0)

NHL- Ducks-3 Sharks-2 ; this is truly a choke show for San Jose (Ducks lead 2-0)

San Jose is the number 1 seed in the West and does not seem to have the legs in the playoffs to win, but I think they can come back with some play from the heart.

I will be back later with scores and analysis for tonight games.

scores and more

Here are some final scores for today:

NBA Playoffs:

Lakers-113 Jazz-100; can you say Lakers in 4 games? (Lakers lead 1-0)

76ers-100 Magic-98; a little bit of a shocker there. (76ers lead 1-0)

Hawks-90 Heat-64; where did the Heat go to all of a sudden? (Hawks lead 1-0)

Hornets vs Nuggets: will post score tomorrow

NHL Playoffs:

Flyers-6 Penguins-3 (Penguins lead 2-1)

Canucks-3 Blues-2 (Canucks lead 3-0)

Devils-3 Hurricanes-2 (Devils lead 2-1)

Ducks vs Sharks: will post score tomorrow

I am a little surprised by some of the day's events like the Jazz falling so easily, but maybe there will be a comeback in the works.

Till tomorrow,

Rusty Butler

What a day!!

Not a day goes by that I wonder how things could be different for me if I had not moved to Utah with my wife. If I were still back in Georgia, I could follow the Seminoles more closely, but I wouldn't be such a Jazz fan. Do not get me wrong, I love it here in Utah and I am glad that we made the move. I am watching the Jazz play the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs and they are getting their butts kicked by 20 points. I got a feeling it is going to be a long series for the Jazz.

I am also following the Pittsburgh/Philadelphia playoff hockey game, which Philly is winning 4-2, but Pittsburgh is leading the series 2-0. It has been such a fierce game with physical play and that is what I love to see. There are 2 more games on tonight, with Vancouver playing St Louis (Vancouver is up 2-0 in the series) and then Anaheim takes on San Jose in the late game (Anaheim is shocking up 1-0 in the series) and finally Carolina is taking on New Jersey(series is tied 1-1).

This morning I watched the Yankees play the Indians, and the Yankees were losing 3-0, so I turned it to something else cause it is so sad to see these guys with such potential play at such a bad state at this time. But to my surprise, they came back and won 7-3. They are 7-6 in the young season, but high hopes are always looming around them.

I will be back later to share some final scores with you and some analysis.

Bye for now,

Rusty Butler

Intro

Hello there friends,

The first thing I would like to post and talk about is introducing myself. I was born in Tallahassee, Fla. and raised in a small town just across the border called Cairo, Ga. So being a Seminoles fan just came naturally to me. I started watching sports since the age of 1 and it must have stuck with me cause I watch sports all year long. My favorite sports are college football and basketball. But the enjoyment does not end there. I watch NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB along with golf and NASCAR. In fact, right now I am watching an NHL playoff game with Montreal and Boston in Game 2 with Boston winning 5-1. I cheer my beloved 'Noles on in any sport they compete in and I actually attended there for my freshman year of college.

I look forward to keeping you posted on scores and insight into the world of sports everyday and I will put some personal facts about me in there also. The plate is full this time of  year, especially with the NFL Draft coming up. I have a lot to say about that.

Till next time,

Rusty Butler
